CAROL ROUT

Carol has lived in Suffolk for the past 40 years. The surrounding countryside and coast have been an endless source of inspiration for her artwork: the sea especially.

As far back into childhood as she can remember, she has painted murals, stage scenery and taught children art classes, but now she is happiest making 2D and 3D art pieces using mixed media, glass, mosaic and clay.

“It has always fascinated me how a soft ball of squelchy clay can be transformed into
decorative and functional items!”

After attending Creative Clay sessions run by our resident Artist: Emma Jayne Robertson, a few years ago now, Carol continued to develop her skills , experimenting with clay and those finishing touches.

Most of her ceramic pieces are hand built and then decorated with a combination of painting and layering various underglazes and glazes.
She also uses Sgraffito, Mishima and slip-trailing techniques in her decorating to make some rather beautiful pieces.

We are proud that a former Student from EJaRt Creative, has developed essential skills and progressed in the Art World , now exhibiting and selling her work in the Gallery, with an everchanging variety of designs in different media.
